OVER 120,000 TESTS SHOW EGGLAND'S BEST EGGS CONSISTENTLY EXCEED TOUGHEST INDUSTRY STANDARDS FOR QUALITY
Eggland's Best Quality Assurance Standards Are Stricter Than Those Set by USDA
KING OF PRUSSIA, PA -- February 21, 2000--The results of more than 120,000 tests conducted over the past five years prove that Eggland's best, Inc., the leading developer of nutritionally superior patented eggs, exceeds its strict product standards. Eggland's Best holds its egg producers to quality standards that are stricter than those set by the USDA.
Eggland's Best hens are fed a strictly controlled, high quality all vegetarian diet that contains no animal fat, no animal byproducts, and no recycled and processed food. The all-natural feed contains only healthy grains, canola oil and Biotene™, a unique all natural supplement which includes rice bran, alfalfa meal, kelp and vitamin E. Eggland's Best eggs are produced without hormones and antibiotics.
Because of this unique feed, one Eggland’s Best egg contains:
- 190 mg of cholesterol compared to 215 mg in an ordinary egg;
- 25 percent less saturated fat compared to an ordinary egg; • A level of Omega 3 which is three times the amount in an ordinary egg;
- 7 times more vitamin E than an ordinary egg which accounts for 25 percent of a person’s daily requirement for vitamin E; and,
- 40 percent of a person’s daily iodine requirement compared to 15 percent in an ordinary egg
Bart T. Slaugh, Ph.D, Eggland's Director of Quality Assurance, said, "Eggland's Best is dedicated to producing its eggs by using only the highest standards of quality to ensure consumer satisfaction. Our results show that our egg producers are equally as dedicated to producing the best egg on the market. Eggland's Best will not rest on its laurels and will continue to look at ways to make our product even better."
Eggland's Best anticipates running about 28,000 laboratory tests this year to confirm that its eggs consistently meet specifications for cholesterol, iodine, vitamin E, yolk color, shell quality, Omega 3 and saturated fat levels.
According to Dr. Slaugh, three independent laboratories review and certify these findings. Eggland's Best regularly analyzes its eggs procured at random from supermarkets and producers. Every year Eggland's Best conducts independent studies of its eggs picked at random from supermarkets in 40 cities. Feed samples are tested weekly.
Eggland's Best is the only company with a nationally-branded whole egg granted approval to carry exchange list verification on its packaging from the American Diabetes and American Dietetic Associations. Consumers can exchange on e large Eggland's Best egg for one medium-fat meat or meat substitute.
