KING OF PRUSSIA, PA, January 1999 - Eggland's Best, Inc. (EB), developers of superior quality, patented hen eggs sold in 45 states, can now label its eggs as an acceptable food substitute for a "medium fat meat", according to guidelines established by the Exchange List for Meal Planning.

The Exchange List is the most widely used guide for meal planning for diabetics and others who must control their calories and carbohydrates. The list was established by the American Dietetic Association and the American Diabetes Association as a way to help diet counselors and consumers have more variety in the kinds of foods they can include in meals.

Eggland's Best is the first company with a nationally branded whole shell egg granted permission to carry exchange list verification on its packaging. Consumers can exchange one large Eggland`s Best egg for one medium-fat meat or meat substitute.

Eggland's Best eggs were developed to meet the needs of the many Americans who love eggs and would like to include them as part of a low fat, cholesterol conscious diet as long as they are eaten in place of more fatty foods. Therefore one large Eggland`s Best egg can be exchanged for one medium-fat meat or meat substitute.

EB cartons and nutrition education material will carry the label "Exchange: 1 Medium Fat Meat" Dietary exchanges based on Exchange List for Meal Planning @ 1995 American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association.

Eggland's Best hens are fed a strictly controlled, high quality all vegetarian diet that contains no animal fat, no animal byproducts, and no recycled or processed food.
