How do I tell if my egg is fresh for baking and cooking?

There's a "bowl test" you can use to see how fresh an egg really is. For the "bowl test", fill some water into the bowl and drop the egg into it. If an egg is fresh, it will immediately sink to the bottom and lie flat on its side. As it begins to lose freshness, the egg will point towards the surface until the smaller end is no longer touching the bottom of the bowl.  Discard the egg if it is completely floating in the water.
