NEW YORK, May 31, 2009 – For the fifth consecutive year, Eggland’s Best (EB) has been recognized by Men’s Health magazine as one of the “Top 125 Best Foods for Men.” This year specifically, the editors named Eggland’s Best the “Best Eggs,” as well as “Top Pick” in their annual feature, and touted that “each egg contains 100 milligrams of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids.”
According to The National Center for Health, heart disease is the leading cause of mortality for men of all racial and ethnic groups within the United States[1]. Increased cholesterol levels are a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Replacing ordinary eggs with Eggland’s Best as part of a heart-healthy diet is one way to eat a delicious and nutritionally rich food that is lower in cholesterol. Compared to an ordinary egg, EB eggs contain less cholesterol (175 mg vs. 215 mg), 25 percent less saturated fat, ten times more Vitamin E, provide 40 percent of a person’s daily requirement of iodine, 200 mcg of lutein for eye health and are an ideal way to include Omega 3 in one’s diet.
“Each year, consumers look to the Men’s Health Annual Nutrition Awards as a guide for selecting the tastiest and healthiest foods in the supermarket,” said Charlie Lanktree, President and CEO of Eggland’s Best. “Eggland’s Best is proud to be selected as the ‘best eggs’ by such a well-known health magazine for our superior nutritional benefits and great taste for the fifth year in a row.”
