In its fifth year, Five River Metro Park's Gear Fest, the annual outdoor recreation extravaganza, in Dayton, OH was bigger than ever. Several thousand attendees came to participate in the activities.
The free event was held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 but started the evening before with a concert and food vendors in Eastwood MetroPark. Gear Fest included free activities like a climbing wall; a seven-mile bike ride led by the Dayton Cycling Club; a three-mile hike along the Buckeye Trail, which runs through the park; geocaching; a disc golf course; the Youth Zone, which featured activities for youngsters from five organizations; and a “Try Kayaking” area on the Mad River. Free camping was offered Friday and Saturday nights in the park as well.
The event included about 70 gear and food vendors. Demos included a mountain biking team, professional whitewater kayakers, snowboard demonstrations and — for the first time ever — a mountain boarding team.
Eggland's Best was there to support Team Dayton Cycling. They had a very large number of people come to their exhibit to talk with them about their team and the sport of cycling. They passed out Eggland's Best coupons and brochures.
